Knowing that Diāna has been studying photography for more than a decade, sometimes her father asks whether she could take a panorama photograph of Riga for his living room wall. Usually she declines, saying that’s not really what she does. Once, she planned to give a photo to her grandmother as a gift, but her mother placed it in a silver frame. Diāna was angry, but her mother answered that grandma would like it. In the exhibition “Commissions” created for the ISSP Gallery, Diāna finally fulfils her family’s wishes.
Diāna Tamane (Latvia/ Estonia, 1986) was born in Riga, and lives and works between Tartu and Riga. Her primary medium of expression is photography, but she also uses video, sound, text and found objects in her work. Graduated from the Tartu Art College, the LUCA School of Arts in Brussels and HISK in Ghent. Her works have been widely exhibited in Europe and worldwide, and are held in the collection of the Winterthur Museum and private collections.
