World Press Photo izstāde būs Rīgā

Prestižo Pasaules preses foto gada fotogrāfijas balvu šogad ieguvis zviedru fotogrāfa Pola Hansena (Paul Hansen) uzņēmums no Izraēlas-palestīniešu konflikta. No 14. maija līdz 2. jūnijam World Press Photo izstāde būs apskatāma arī Rīgā, Sv. Pētera Baznīcā - pirmo reizi 20 gadu laikā.

Zviedrijas laikraksta Dagens Nyheter žurnālista Hansena fotogrāfija tapusi 2012. gada novembrī, un tajā attēlota vīriešu grupa, kas caur Gazas ielām nes divus Izraēlas gaisa uzlidojumā bojā gājušus bērnus uz bēru ceremoniju mošejā.

„Šī attēla spēks slēpjas tajā, kā tas pretstata pieaugušo dusmas un bēdas bērnu nevainībai,” komentēja žūrijas loceklis no Peru, Maju Moanna. „Es šo fotogrāfiju nekad neaizmirsīšu.”

Šogad pavisam 5666 fotogrāfi no 124 valstīm konkursam iesniedza 103 481 fotogrāfiju, kuras vērtēja žūrija – fotožurnālistikas un dokumentālās fotogrāfijas profesionāļi no visas pasaules. Labākie gada fotouzņēmumi tiek nosaukti dažādās kategorijās – tie ir gan ziņu attēli, gan portreti, kā arī ikdienas dzīves skati, dabas un sporta fotogrāfijas.  „World Press Photo” konkurss notiek kopš 1956. gada, un tā mērķis ir nemitīgi celt fotožurnālistikas standartus pasaulē, kā arī atbalstīt brīvu pieeju informācijai, veicinot dialogu sabiedrībā par pasaulē aktuāliem notikumiem un problēmām.

Izstāde ar apbalvotajiem attēliem ik gadu apceļo vairāk nekā 100 pilsētas 45 valstīs. Šogad pirmo reizi kopš 1991. gada „World Press Photo” izstāde būs apskatāma arī Rīgā – no 14. maija līdz 2. jūnijam.

Izstādes atvešanu uz Rīgu organizē biedrība ISSP sadarbībā ar biedrību Ascendum.

This May, the World Press Photo exhibition is visiting Riga for the first time since 1991, presenting the results of the leading international contest in visual journalism. The exhibition will be at St. Peter’s Church from May 14 – June 2 2013.

The winner of World Press Photo of the Year 2012 is Paul Hansen of the Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter. The winning image was made on 20 November 2012 in Gaza City, Palestinian Territories. See the full list of winners at: http://www.worldpressphoto.org/2013-photo-contest.

Alongside the exhibition, an extensive educational programme is planned in Riga as part of the Arts Programme "Tête-à-tête 20 Episodes" with the support of The Boris and Inara Teterev Foundation. On May 23, WPPh award winners Paul Hansen, Jan Grarup and Stephan Vanfleteren will give public talks at the Splendid Palace cinema. There will be a masterclass (with Jan Grarup) and portfolio review for photojournalists/ documentary photographers, as well as a programme of educational excursions for high school students.

The World Press Photo foundation is committed to supporting and advancing high standards in photojournalism and documentary storytelling worldwide. The prize-winning pictures are presented in an exhibition visiting more than 100 cities in over 45 countries. The first 2013 World Press Photo exhibition opens in Amsterdam on 26 April 2013.

The exhibition in Riga is organised by ISSP in cooperation with Ascendum.

Aaron Shuman in Riga (second try)

We all try again and are looking forward to host Aaron Shuman in Riga this weekend, provided no more volcano surprises coming up. The lecture “Whatever Was Splendid: New American Photographs” will take place at kim? at 19:00 on Saturday 1 May 2010.

The workshop Aesthetics of nostalgia will run this weekend, 1-2 May. You are welcome to apply for several vacant places till this Friday, 30 April!

Aaron Shuman in Riga: workshop and lecture

In framework of US culture month in Riga “Made in USA“, we are pleased to invite applications to an ISSP-run workshop Aesthetics of nostalgia by a great photographer, editor, writer and curator Aaron Shuman. The workshop shall take place on 17-18 April 2010, at kim? Riga.

ISSP Club evenings to start from September

We have launched a new activity - a series of ISSP club meetings in Riga! The club evenings will take place with an approximate regularity of every second week. In the programme: ISSP participants’ presentation of completed or ongoing projects, invited artists’ talks, and a special selection of photography-related movies. The main motivation is to keep up the contacts and networking among the ISSP participants.
