Artist talk: Morten Andersen: Projects + Books

20.10. plkst 16.00

Birojnīcā, Berga Bazārā (Dzirnavu iela 84 k-2)

LV:

Ieeja bez maksas.

ENG:

The artist talk by Norwegian photographer Morten Andersen will provide an insight into his own photographic projects as well as the currently influential self-publishing movement.

Morten Andersen - born in Norway (1965). Started making fanzines and taking pictures of friends in punk rock bands at the age of 15. After several years of working in music and press photography, in 1990 he moved to New York to study at International Center of Photography, where his teachers included photographers like Joan Liftin, Nan Goldin and Larry Clark. Had an internship with Magnum photographer Gilles Peress. Had his first solo exhibition at Fotogalleriet in Oslo in 1992, since then has had solo and group shows in New Zealand, France, Germany, Greece, Russia, Italy, Austria, Holland, England, Sweden, USA, Norway, Portugal, Switzerland. Has published 14 books of his own work, mostly self-published. Lives and works in Oslo, Norway.

Common for all my work, the motivation for photographing comes from curiosity and the desire to explore and investigate places and environments - be it the Oslo underground rock scene, Norwegian forests, my own neighbourhood, or international cities. Since 1999, the photobook has been my main medium for showing my work. Besides being an object of art in itself, the book is a democratic, accessible and intimate medium where the sum of the single images and the editing creates a larger whole that, like in a novel or a film, makes a story that can bring you to a new place and experiences."
