ISSP Final Conference "Photography and the World"

International Summer School of Photography 2019
FINAL CONFERENCE: Photography and the World
19.07.2019, Zaļenieki, Latvia

The ISSP 2019 Final Conference will present the results of the week-long work of the ISSP participants, containing elements of a pop-up exhibition, discussion, performance, a manifest, as well as other components we cannot yet predict. A special publication "Photography and the World" created on the campus by a dedicated editorial team will be released.

The first thematic edition of the ISSP, taking place in Zaļenieki, Latvia from 12-20 July, will be looking at photography as a possible tool for positive change, with reference to global issues the world is facing today. Over 70 participants from all over the world will be working in six workshops, exploring the position of photography in relation to political activism, environment, community engagement, social change, and the ritual.

The focus of the ISSP 2019 is on reflection and discussion, imagining, creating and trying out possibilities. The participants will try to answer questions like - What role can art/ photography play in relation to the events and processes happening in the world? What are the ways art can contribute to the societies we live in? What is the role of the photographer – as a professional, an activist, a member of the community, a responsible human being?

We invite all those interested in photography, visual art and activism to join us!

Attendance free of charge. The language of the event is English.
