Jim Goldberg (Magnum Photos) has been exhibiting for over 30 years and his innovative and experimental use of image and text make him a landmark photographer of our times, often exploring socially relevant themes.

21:30 - 22:45 Part II: Artist talk, Alessandra Sanguinetti (US), "Far away and long ago"

Known for her evocative and emotional portraits, acclaimed documentary photographer Alessandra Sanguinetti has lived and worked extensively in the US and Argentina. She will talk about her start in photography, giving an overview or her work and process.

20:00 - 21:15 Part I: Artist talk, Anna Fox (UK), “Telling Tales”

British documentary photographer and professor Anna Fox is known for her colorful, saturated and ironic take on British public life and everyday culture. In recent years, her focus also includes staged photography, using the stories told by real people. 

21:30 - 22:30 Part II: Artist talk, Andrew Bruce (UK), “Cold Air Rising”

Andrew Bruce is an artist working primarily with photography. His work deals with the position of animals in relation to culture and to the natural world. Using allegorical strategies, Bruce questions our modern relationship to nature.

20:00 - 21:15 Part I: Artist talk, Takashi Homma (JP), “Contemporary Japanese Photography”

Takashi Homma is one of the most well-known photographers in his native Japan, and also lived and worked in London. He regularly teaches and writes about photography, and has influenced a the new generation of photographers. Homma will talk about his own work as well as the development of Japanese photography.

21:30 - 23:00 Part II: Artist talk, Alexander Gronsky (RU/LV)

Alexander Gronsky is one of the most well-known of the new generation of Russian photographers. Starting his career as a press photographer, he eventually turned to personal, documentary projects and is now taking an increasingly conceptual approach to landscape.

20:00 - 22:00 Alex Bocchetto (Akina Books, IT/UK) and Nico Baumgarten (DE), "Books we love / books we hate – a rational-emotional discussion about the form and content of photobooks"

Akina Books is an independent publishing house of hand-made photobooks, established in 2012, and gaining recognition in the art world with recent editions. Photographer and bookmaker Nico Baumgarten has self-published 4 photobooks and run workshops internationally. Both will briefly outline their work and define what it is that interests them about and inside photobooks. After a short introduction about what makes a book a photobook, they will engage in a controversial discussion about their favorite books or books they really don't like.

NB! ISSP does not provide catering or accommodation for guests. You can stay overnight in Kuldīga, or those who need a place to stay overnight in Pelči can bring tents. It might be possible to find dormitory beds at the campus, you should bring a sleeping bag. 

Guests are asked to take care not to disturb the work of the ISSP workshops.

ISSP Jauniešu skolas atvērto durvju diena

Trešdien, 20. septembrī, plkst. 16.00-19.00 aicinām uz ISSP Jauniešu skolas atvērto druvju dienu! Tā būs iespēja iepazīt ISSP Jauniešu skolas programmas saturu, izgatavot savu pinhole kameru un radoši darboties ar apgaismojumu, kā arī pieteikties programmai. ISSP Jauniešu skolas nodarbības atsāksies oktobrī un ilgs līdz jūnijam vienreiz nedēļā divās vecuma grupās: 11-14 g. un 15-18g. 

Vides instalācija "Melnais kubs – Camera Obscura"

Rīgas vasaras kultūras programmas ietvaros no 15. līdz 20. augustam katram Rīgas iedzīvotājam un viesim būs iespēja iepazīt fotoaparāta uzbūves principus interaktīvā vides objektā "Melnais kubs – Camera Obscura" Ziedoņdārzā. Paralēli vides objektam notiks analogās fotogrāfijas meistardarbnīcas. Aicināti piedalīties gan lieli, gan mazi interesenti!

Meistarklase "Apzināts radošums. Fotogrāfija kā klātesamības prakse"

Šīs vasaras pēdējā ISSP Radošā meistarklase – "Apzināts radošums. Fotogrāfija kā klātesamības prakse” ar mākslinieci Ivetu Gabaliņu – notiks 25.-27. augustā Līču skolā. Meistarklases laikā dalībniekiem būs iepsēja attīstīt savu radošo domāšanu un potenciālu, izmantojot fotogrāfijā balstītus pašizziņas rīkus un uzdevumus. Vēl ir dažas brīvas vietas! 

Jurģis Peters – Sintētiskā klātbūtne / Synthetic Presence

No 21. jūlija līdz 7. septembrim ISSP Galerijā is skatāma jauno mediju mākslinieka Jurģa Petera personālizstāde “Sintētiskā klātbūtne”, kas aplūko cilvēka un tehnoloģiju attiecību mijiedarbi, reflektējot par ticību mākslīgā intelekta spējai glābt cilvēci un pasauli. Izstādes atklāšana notiks 20. jūlijā plkst. 18.00.

From July 21 to September 7, the ISSP Gallery will host the solo exhibition Synthetic Presence by new media artist Jurģis Peters, which explores the interaction between humans and technology, reflecting on the belief in the ability of artificial intelligence to save humanity and the world. The exhibition will open on July 20 at 6 PM.

Atvērta pieteikšanās programmai "Attīstot fotogrāfijas valodu"

Līdz 31. jūlijam pagarināta pieteikšanās ISSP Skolas neformālās izglītības divu gadu programmas “Attīstot fotogrāfijas valodu” 2023./2025. gada kursam! “Attīstot fotogrāfijas valodu” ir vadošā praksē balstītā laikmetīgās fotogrāfijas izglītības programma Latvijā, kas piedāvā radošu un kritisku vidi, kurā attīstīt savu vizuālo valodu un rokrakstu fotogrāfijā. Programma sniedz priekšstatu par laikmetīgās fotogrāfijas norisēm Latvijā un starptautiski, iepazīstina ar medija vēsturi un teoriju, kā arī sniedz izpratni par fotogrāfijas plašajām iespējām un izaicinājumiem.

'Shift', an evening of work by Rujuta Rao and Sui Lam

Wednesday, June 28 at 7:30 PM at Bolderāja ISSP artist-in-residence Rujuta Rao and kuš! artist-in-residence Sui Lam invites to an evening of work where they will present the projects they have been working on during their residency in Riga this June. Free entrance.

ISSP Skolas 2021/2023 absolventu izstāde

No 30. jūnija līdz 21. jūlijam Berga Bazārā, Elizabetes ielā 87, ir skatāma izstāde “Tulkojums netika atrasts”, kurā sevi piesaka septiņi jaunie fotogrāfi, ISSP Skolas divu gadu izglītības programmas “Attīstot fotogrāfijas valodu” 2023. gada absolventi. Izstādes atklāšana notiks 29. jūnijā plkst. 18.00. Laipni lūdzam!

ISSP Radošās meistarklases vasarā

Šovasar ISSP piedāvā trīs radošās meistardarbnīcas Latvijas laukos ar nozarē vadošiem fotogrāfiem un māksliniekiem Aigu Rēdmani un Ģirtu Raģeli (21.-23. jūlijā), Zani Priedi (28.-30. jūlijā), un Ivetu Gabaliņu (25.-27. augustā). ISSP radošās meistarklases būs iespēja iedvesmoties, eksperimentēt, piedzīvot kopīgu radošo procesu un paplašināt savu māksliniecisko rokrakstu talantīgu pasniedzēju vadībā. 

Open Call: LCCA Summer School 2023

Call for applications for the annual LCCA Summer School “Care of Earth, Care of People. System Change for an Inclusive and Sustainable Environments” in Smiltene, Latvia, 4 – 11 August 2023. The Summer School is open to early career artists, art historians, humanities and social science scholars, curators and cultural studies researchers. Application deadline: June 25.

Izsludinām pieteikšanos ISSP vasaras nometnei “Vasara pilsētā", kas norisināsies 3.–7. jūlijā Rīgā! Fotogrāfijas un zīnu nometne tiek veidota kā radošs un izglītojošs piedzīvojums jauniešiem vecumā no 11 līdz 15 gadiem. Tā piedāvās interaktīvas un izglītojošas aktivitātes, kas raisa interesi par laikmetīgo fotogrāfiju un mākslu, attīstīs radošumu, kritiskās analīzes spējas un izteiksmes brīvību.
