Adrian Kelterborn is a multimedia and film producer, director and editor. As a lead producer at Magnum in Motion, the inhouse-multimedia department of Magnum Photos, he produced more than 100 multimedia essays in close collaboration with Magnum photographers. He is now back in Bern, Switzerland, developing various mixed media projects for online and offline platforms.
In his talk, Adrian will speak about the different options we have today for working with multimedia and what it means for storytelling possibilities and platforms.

21:45 - 23:00 part II: Artist talk, Antonin Kratochvil (CZ)
A photojournalist, founding member of the VII photo agency, Antonin Kratochvil has covered all sorts of major events, rebellions and natural disasters around the world in the last few decades. His fluid and unconventional work has been sought by numerous publications stretching across widely differing interests. From shooting Mongolia’s street children to a portrait session with David Bowie, his ability to see through and into his subjects has made his pictures into uncensored visions, documenting the time in which he lives.

Wednesday, August 6
20:30 - 22:00 "John Burke: the greatest war photographer you've never heard of" - Artist talk, Simon Norfolk (UK)
Simon Norfolk is a landscape photographer whose work has been themed around a probing and stretching of the meaning of the word 'battlefield' in all its forms. He has photographed in some of the world's worst war-zones and refugee crises, but is equally at home photographing supercomputers used to design military systems or test-launches of nuclear missiles. Norfolk’s work has been widely recognized internationally, and he has been described by critics as “the leading documentary photographer of our time”.
Simon will talk about his project in Afghanistan in parallel with the forgotten Irish war photographer John Burke who followed the British into Afghanistan in 1878, raising the subject of imperialist arrogance which many will find very relevant today.

Thursday, August 7
20:30 - 21:45 part I: "The Girly movement in Japanese photography (1990s)" - Yurie Nagashima (JP)
Yurie Nagashima is a Japanese photographer and contemporary artist working predominantly in the genres of self-portraiture, portraiture, street photography and still life. Has been awarded several prestigious national awards in Japan for her work that deals with the family, gender and identity. She studied photography at the California Institute of the Arts and is currently continuing her research on the history of modern Japanese photography and her artistic practice in Tokyo.
Yurie will talk about the 90s movement in Japanese photography, when many young women entered this formerly predominantly male discipline. This phenomenon was labeled “Girly photo”. She will introduce some photographers from that time period, as well as showing her own work.

21:45 - 23:00 part II: “Making a photobook: How to talk so the graphic designer will listen, and listen so the photographer will talk” - Rafal Milach and Ania Nalecka (PL)
An outstanding creative tandem, photographer Rafal Milach and graphic designer Ania Nalecka from Poland have been working together on a number of fascinating photography books and publications, such as 7 RoomsBlack Sea of ConcreteIn the Car with R by Rafal Milach, as well as numerous other books produced by Sputnik collective that they are both a part of. Friday, August 8
20:30 - 21:45 "Eugène Atget and the Freedom of Old Age" - lecture by Mark Steinmetz
Eugène Atget - a French flâneur and a pioneer of documentary photography, Atget was determined to document the architecture and street scenes of Paris before modernization. Most of his work was published after his death. An inspiration for the surrealists and other artists, his genius was only recognized by a handful of young artists in the last two years of his life, and he did not live to see the wide acclaim his work would eventually receive.
