The World Press Photo exhibition will finally visit Riga from 14 May till 2 June, hosted by ISSP in cooperation with NGO Ascendum. "Elements of Acceptance and Elements of Dissent"
The streets of the city welcome us with a dense variety of languages and signs. These messages are a key to the complex dynamic of life of the city and its inhabitants, reflected in public space. The "elements of acceptance and elements of dissent" are the signs of an open discussion between the inhabitants of the city, presented to us in different forms, that affect our daily life and shape our collective memory. The ways we notice, document and interpret these, represent the variety of ideas that form the structure of our society.
Filippo is offering a photo walk as a method of exploring the public space of Riga and sharing, through photography and discussion, ideas on the visual elements that create divisions or connections in our society. A photo walk can be a way to widen our understanding of city life and its engraved social and visual codes.
The photo walk is open for everyone interested. Any photographic medium (including smartphone) is welcome and everyone is welcome to join!
14:00 - gathering at the ISSP space, start of the photo walk;
~17:00 - return to the ISSP, coffee and discussion;
19:00 (optional) - film screening "Icaros: a Vision".
Participation is free of charge.
The discussion will be held in English.
Filippo Zambon - born in Florence, studied Art History at the University of Florence. After working as an assistant for a war photographer, he moved to Helsinki where he studied Fine Arts, majoring in photography, at the University of the Arts of Helsinki. His practice is focused on research into the formal and theoretical combinations of different visual languages. His work has been exhibited in the Hasselblad centre in Gothenburg, The Finnish Museum of Photography in Helsinki, the Benetton Foundation in Treviso, and other places in Europe. His first monograph, ”The Komi diary” was awarded in 2018 as the photobook of the year in Finland. He describes himself as "a photographer obsessed with photography in all its forms".

As every year, the ISSP evening programme is open to all photography lovers - free of charge! Every evening starting from Sunday, 5 August, till Friday, 10 August, we will offer a series of fascinating presentations and artist talks by ISSP masters and invited guests. On Saturday, the 11th, everyone is invited to the Opening of ISSP exhibition at the new Kuldiga Town Exhibition Hall and screening of participants final works at the open air Goldingen cinema. Sadarbībā ar starptautisko Lodzas fotofestivālu (Polija), 26.jūnijā Kaņepes Kultūras centrā notiks īpašs festivāla satelītpasākums - 12 Grand Prix konkursa finālistu nakts projekcijas. Lodzas festivāla konkursā katru gadu piedalās vairāk nekā 500 fotogrāfu no visas pasaules. 72 minūšu garā fotoprojekcijā, kas pirmo reizi tika demonstrēta festivāla nakts programmas ietvaros š.g. maijā Lodzā, iekļauti 12 festivāla finālistu projekti.
