Call for Applications - ISSP International Masterclass 2019/2020

The ISSP International Masterclass is a year-long international mentorship and networking programme for emerging photographers. The programme is practice-based and runs in two thematic classes led by experienced photography tutors. During the year, 24 selected photographers (12 in each class) develop their long-term projects under the guidance of the tutors, through physical workshop sessions in Latvia, Lithuania and Sicily and online feedback in between. 

The programme is meant for both self-taught photographers and recent graduates from academic programmes, who wish to pursue an extended personal project and take their practice to the next level. The Masterclass is offering the participants regular mentoring, networking and international exposure opportunities and a support structure for developing a conceptually strong body of work. 

Applications for Masterclass 2019/2020 with Jason Fulford ("What Shall I Love If Not the Enigma?") and Lisa Barnard ("Rhizomes: Political Constellations") are open until 25 June 2019. The programme will start in October 2019.

Bērnu & ģimeņu GIF darbnīca ISSP galerijā

Sestdien, 3. augustā no plkst. 12.00 - 15.00 ISSP aicina uz radošo GIF darbnīcu bērniem un ģimenēm!

Vēl līdz 7. augustam ISSP Galerijā skatāma latviešu mākslinieces Ievas Raudsepas izstāde "Tā varētu tevi arī aprīt". Tajā redzamais video darbs ir daļēji fiktīvs, daļēji dokumentāls stāsts, kas norisinās uz prāmja kaut kur starp Rīgu un Stokholmu. Darbnīcā ar fotogrāfi un pedagoģi Noru Austriņu būs iespēja tuvāk iepazīt izstādi un to, kā teksts var tikt interpretēts un parādīts video. Iedvesmojoties no īsstāstiem ar kuģu un jūras motīviem, katrs varēs apgūt prasmi veidot vienkāršu GIF animāciju un iestudēt nelielu kustību sēriju. 

ISSP Final Conference "Photography and the World"

The ISSP 2019 Final Conference will present the results of the week-long work of the ISSP participants, containing elements of a pop-up exhibition, discussion, performance, a manifest, as well as other components we cannot yet predict. A special publication "Photography and the World" created on the campus by a dedicated editorial team will be released.

This year, the first thematic edition of the International Summer School of Photography, "Photography and the World", is offering a series of fascinating talks and presentations by the ISSP tutors, guests and participants, as well as a first-off event - the Final Conference on 19 July, containing elements of a pop-up exhibition, a performance, a manifest, as well as the launch of a publication that will be produced on the campus. The events are free of charge - all those interested in photography, visual arts and activism are welcome! 

Ieva Raudsepa - It Could Just Swallow You Up

No 4. jūlija līdz 7. augustam ISSP Galerijā skatāma latviešu mākslinieces Ievas Raudsepas izstāde "Tā varētu tevi arī aprīt" - daļēji fiktīvs, daļēji dokumentāls stāsts, kas norisinās uz prāmja kaut kur starp Rīgu un Stokholmu. Līdzās izstādei 3. jūlijā tika atklāta arī Ievas jaunā fotogrāmata "Kruīzā".

From July 4 to August 7 the ISSP Gallery is hosting the solo exhibition "It Could Just Swallow You Up" by Latvian artist Ieva Raudsepa. The semi-fictional, semi-documentary video piece takes place on a ferry between Riga and Stockholm. The exhibition opening and the presentation of Ieva's new book "Cruise" took place on July 3.

Pieteikšanās programmai "Attīstot fotogrāfijas valodu"

Līdz 29. jūlijam atvērta pieteikšanās ISSP Skolas divu gadu vakaru programmai ATTĪSTOT FOTOGRĀFIJAS VALODU 2019/2021! 

Programma paredzēta dalībniekiem ar priekšzināšanām un nodrošina studentiem atvērtu, radošu un kritisku vidi, kurā attīstīt savu vizuālo valodu un individuālo pieeju fotogrāfijā. ISSP Skolas absolventu izstāde 6EŠI

No 30. maija līdz 22. jūnijam ISSP Skolas absolventu izstāde "6EŠI" apskatāma radošajā kvartālā Tallinas ielā 6! Izstāde ir šī gada Rīgas Fotomēneša notikums.

Izstādē "6EŠI" savu pasaules redzējumu caur fotogrāfijas mediju pauž vairāki jauni mākslinieki, meklējot saskarsmes punktus starp ārpasauli un savu personīgo pieredzi, bērnības atmiņām, ilgām, kultūru stereotipiem, kurus jālauž vai, gluži otrādi, jābūvē.

Artist talk :: Martin Kollar

Piektdien, 17. maijā, plkst 15.00 aicinām uz tikšanos ar slovāku fotogrāfu Martinu Kollaru, kurā viņš pastāstīs vairāk par izstādi "Ekskursija", kas apskatāma ISSP Galerijā līdz 15. jūnijam, un citiem saviem darbiem.

On 17 May at 3pm ISSP is hosting an artist talk by Slovak photographer Martin Kollar, whose exhibition "Field Trip" is on view at the ISSP Gallery until 15 June.

ISSP Masterclass 2018/2019 - results

We are happy to present the results of the recently completed ISSP International Masterclass 2018/2019! 22 artists and photographers from 15 countries spent a year working on their personal projects under the guidance of experienced mentors. The work was created under two thematic lines - "A Sense of Change", mentored by Peter Bialobrzeski, exploring how changes in the physical, political or psychological landscape can be represented in contemporary photographic practice, and "Answering Questions & Questioning Answers", mentored by Clare Strand and Gordon MacDonald, an experimental class centered on translating ideas into visual language. Martin Kollar - Field Trip

No 17. maija līdz 15. jūnijam ISSP Galerijā skatāma slovāku fotogrāfa Martina Kollara izstāde “Ekskursija” (Field trip), kas ir daļa no Rīgas Fotomēneša 2019 programmas. Kollars ilgstoši dzīvojis un strādājis Izraēlā, dokumentējot vienu no mūsdienu pasaules pretrunīgākajām ģeogrāfiskajām zonām. 

From May 17 to June 15 the ISSP Gallery is hosting the solo exhibition "Field Trip" by Slovakian photographer Martin Kollar, part of the Riga Photomonth 2019 programme. Kollar has spent extended periods of time in Israel, building a photographic dossier on one of the most contentious geographical zones of modern history.
