Call for Applications - ISSP International Masterclass 2016/2017

The ISSP International Masterclass is a year-long practice based education and networking programme designed for emerging photographers.

The Masterclass is the next step in a serious career in photography, providing regular mentoring, networking opportunities and international exposure to the participants.

The programme offers two thematic classes led by renowned international photography masters, run in parallel during a one year period. 24 selected participants (12 in each class) will develop conceptually strong artistic and documentary projects under the guidance of the experienced tutors and with support of the international group of peers. The masterclass is based on three workshop sessions - two in Latvia and one in Palermo, Sicily - with online feedback in between. At the last session, invited experts - photography editors, critics and curators - offer competent external critique of the created work. The masterclass is completed by a demo exhibition of created works.

Each year, we offer an opportunity to learn from two international masters - the best of the best of our 10-year long ISSP experience. The group is truly international, following best ISSP traditions. Photographers from Latvia, Europe and further locations are encouraged to apply.

David Bate on ISSP

David Bate on ISSP (28 September 2011):

ISSP 2011 was a great experience for me, as I am sure for everyone else who did it. I was amazed at the energy of the event... This is no doubt a 'hothouse environment' which enables passion to turn into production, and production into a critical dialogue and thinking with those who also love photography. Beautifully organized, wonderful location, light and sounds, a real summer treat.

Marcos Lopez on ISSP

Marcos Lopez on ISSP (13 September 2011):

Arno Rafael Minkkinen on ISSP

Arno Rafael Minkkinen on ISSP (7 September 2011):

To answer the famous question one gets later in life - where and with whom did you study - I can’t imagine ISSP students not reflecting back instantly on this amazing time of magical learning, creative abandon, intrepid risk taking - and moonlight dancing - not to mention the endless waterfalls and epiphanies of Kuldiga, the perfect location for it all. I know I would. Com’on, I was a student too!

Claudine Doury on ISSP

Claudine Doury on ISSP (2 September 2011):
ISSP is unique, its not surprising that participants apply from all over the world. One week of non-stop creativity in the middle of the forest. All made possible because of the incredible energy of the ISSP team. Special thanks to my students, it was an amazingly talented and lovely group.
