About
The International Summer School of Photography (ISSP) 2012 will take place in Kuldīga, Latvia on
4 - 12 August 2012.
Organised in Latvia yearly since 2006, the ISSP is designed for professional photographers, students of photography and art, artists working with photography, advanced amateurs and other interested parties with practical knowledge of photographic practice. The focus of the School is on concept rather than technique. The aim is to broaden the artistic and personal vision of participating photographers.
If you already have a serious relationship with photography as a chosen profession or as a means of self-expression, and wish to bring it to a new level through a concentrated learning experience, ISSP is for you!
In 2012 ISSP will again offer six thematic workshops led by an excellent selection of international photography masters in a wonderful setting that makes close interaction between all the participants an integral part of the event. The students work hard during the week to produce a personal photography project under the guidance of their workshop tutor. Every evening, the presentations and talks by ISSP masters and invited guests are open to the interested public. One afternoon is set aside for portfolio reviews with the masters and invited experts.
Each student must create a final project and a set of prints for the final ISSP exhibition that will open at the exhibition space of the newly restored Kuldīga Synagogue on the last day of the event. Later in the fall, the results of ISSP will be presented in our yearly publication, the ISSP catalogue, featuring the works of all the students.
ISSP is a non-commercial event with the aim to support the advancement of talented young photographers from Latvia and the adjoining region and to promote international networking among emerging photographers around the world. We appreciate all kinds of diversity in the student body - our previous students come from over 30 countries, 5 continents! The working language of ISSP is English.
NB! You can find all the information about the ISSP 2011 and the previous editions on this website.
