Attention – Airi Triisberg's lecture will take place on 29 June! We continue a series of lectures on art and activism with an online talk by Estonian curator, art critic and educator Airi Triisberg “The entanglements of alter-globalisation movement and contemporary art in the Baltic region”.

No 1. jūnija līdz 1. jūlijam ISSP Galerijā skatāma SELF PUBLISH RIGA izstāde, kas piedāvā iepazīties ar vairākām grāmatu kolekcijam: "Paris Photo – Aperture PhotoBook Awards" 2020, "Africa in the Photobook", "Nordic Dummy Award", Latvijas, Lietuvas un Igaunijas pēdējo gadu fotogrāmatas, kā arī labākie konkursam iesūtītie fotogrāmatu maketi un Annas Volkovas īpaši veidotā instalācija “Stikla Strenči dažos vārdos”. SELF PUBLISH RIGA ir viens no galvenajiem Rīgas Fotomēneša notikumiem, kas veltīts fotogrāmatām un pašizdošanai.

From June 1 until July 1 the ISSP Gallery will host the SELF PUBLISH RIGA 2021 exhibition of several fascinating photobook collections and a special installation dedicated to the "Glass Strenči". The event is dedicated to photobooks and self-publishing and is one of the main events of Riga Photomonth.

Do you have a complete (or almost complete) photographic project, where you are struggling to include text? We will be repeating the practical online masterclass "Text and Image, Image and Text" with writer and educator Jörg Colberg in June - July 2021. During the 8 week masterclass, participants will work on deeper understanding the relationship between text and image, and finding the best way to include text into their personal project. Applications to the course will be accepted until the group is complete.  

On April 21, 18.30 we start a series of lectures on art and activism with an online talk by the 'magician of rebellion', co-founder of Reclaim The Streets movement J. Jordan (FR) - "In-between Everything: art and activism, nature and culture, male and female – a non-binary guide to creative rebellion”.

ISSP continues to offer international mobility opportunities for artists even in the times of Covid-19 – the ISSP Riga Residency is open for applications for the period July – December 2021!
The Residency provides an opportunity for concentrated work on a personal project informed by interaction with Riga and its residents or much needed time to rethink and complete ongoing work. We welcome photographers, artists and curators interested in exploring the local social and cultural context. Longer stays of 2 - 3 months are recommended for 2021. Application deadline – April 25 (deadline extended to May 4, 2021)

Despite the current circumstances, we are determined to organise the fifth SELF PUBLISH RIGA edition this year as part of Riga Photomonth 2021, whatever form the event might take, and we are waiting for your book dummies till May 17th 2021. The author of the winning dummy will be awarded an exhibition at the ISSP Gallery. Additionally, we have teamed up with a top service provider FineArtPrint to grant credit towards printing and framing to the author of the best dummy from the Baltic states.

Viņi pievērsīsies fotogrāfu pieredzēm un fotogrāfijas lomai šajā vēsturiski nozīmīgā brīdī Baltkrievijā, un dalīsies gan ar neseno notikumu dokumentācijām, gan ar personīgiem projektiem, kas tapuši pašreizējās pilsoniskās protesta kustības kontekstā. 

On 17 March 18:30, we invite to artist talk by three Belarusian photographers currently taking part in the ISSP Residency in Riga – Ihar Hancharuk, Maxim Sarychau and Violetta Savchits. They will focus on photographer's experiences and the role that photography plays in this particular historical time in Belarus and will show a selection of images documenting the recent events, as well as recent personal projects.

We are very happy to welcome three Belarusian photographers selected to take part in our Riga Residency - Maxim Sarychau, Violetta Savchits and Ihar Hancharuk, accompanied by designer Volha Bychkova. They crossed the border safely and will stay in Latvia till the end of March, working on their projects and archives. Big thanks to the Centre for Media Studies at SSE Riga for making this residency possible.

We are happy to announce an online masterclass with Italian duo The Cool Couple - "LOL: Photography in times of global uncertainty". The masterclass will focus on supporting participants' personal researches that aim to address some of the key issues of the present time. Through a series of group and individual meetings, the participants will learn how to improve their projects by gaining a deeper understanding of the methodology behind a coherent artistic project and will be invited to evaluate and experiment with a wide range of visual languages and methods of presentation, often pushing photography to its boundaries. 

The course will start on 19 February, application deadline - 11 February 2021!
