About ISSP
The applications to ISSP 2010 are currently open - if you wish to become a participant, you are welcome to apply till 10 May 2010.
The International Summer School of Photography (ISSP) 2010 will take place on 31 July - 8 August 2010 in Ludza, Latgale (far East of Latvia), and will offer six photography workshops by a truly outstanding collection of teachers:
1) Veronique Bourgoin (France), True or False?
2) Ville Lenkkeri (Finland/Sweden), New Harmony - Man-Altered Landscape
3) Peter Bialobrzeski (Germany), A Sense of Place
4) Roger Ballen (South Africa), Capturing Your Shadow in Black and White
5) Andrei Polikanov (Russia), Photojournalism and Print Media
6) George Georgiou (UK), Documentary Practice and Narrative: The Long Term Project
The aim of ISSP is to offer high-quality alternative education for young photographers, and to encourage cross-border networking and exchange of ideas in the art of photography. Each year, the ISSP offers thematic workshops led by photography professionals of international standing. The students produce their own photographic project in frame of a workshop, working together with their teacher and group-members to explore the chosen genre and topic in depth. A public exhibition of the students’ works traditionally opens at the final day of the School.
The ISSP is designed for those who already have a serious relationship with photography as a chosen profession or as means of personal creative expression, and want to bring this relationship to a new level through a concentrated learning experience. The focus of the School is on concept rather than technique. The aim is to broaden artistic and personal vision of photographers. See ISSP Programme for more info.
About half of participants usually come from Latvia, and rest - from anywhere in Eurasia or elsewhere. We like diversity and see interaction between Latvian and foreign photographers as one of the main outcomes of the event! So far, the students and teachers of ISSP came from over 20 countries. The working language of ISSP is English.
